"acinclude.m4" has primacy, and macros there get chosen before macros in
any other .m4 files (it searches *.m4 in current directory and
/usr/share/aclocal). AFAIK, if a macro is duplicated inside the same file,
you get warnings, but it is completely valid to have the same macro
duplicated across several .m4 files.

"# serial" means nothing to aclocal. It is just a comment.
