[linux-help] GIMP/LOCALE

OK, maybe you guys can help me.
i've been having trouble with locale settings since i
made the jump from mandrake to debian(potato/sid).  i
think i have them fixed.  the only bug left is Gimp.
all the menu text is replaced with little boxes.  this
makes Gimp unusable.  is this more of the locale
problem, or is there a font that was not installed.

all suggestions are appreciated.
