A good point.  I was working towards some sort of marriage between the
GalCiv, SE IV, and KDE/Gnome stuff people had been posting as ideas. 
I probably won't change everything now unless a lot of people
seriously object, but I do have some decent marble, wood, and stone
textures lying around somewhere.  If you come across a good papyrus
texture send it to me.

It wouldn't be too hard to convert the existing design to what you're
describing, and I may have a go at it later once I've got the current
design and layouts close to finished.

Maybe we could have an interface that changes it's appearance as you
advance up the tech tree!

It's a lot easier to layout squares than circles/ovals :-)

But I know what you mean, everything is quite angular.  I'll have a
look at what I can do to round out some of the angles.
