   From what I saw, scanf() can either split on a range of characters or
on whitespace, but not both simultaneously (please correct me if I'm wrong
here).  And I can't seem to find bufsplit on any linux boxen because it
appears to be in libgen, which is not installed on RedHat or Debian by
default (but is on Solaris :)).
