Hut barbarians:
Result in a random number of horsemen.
Hut barbarians will destroy any city they encounter
(or maybe they just reduce size by 3 when capturing it?).

Sea raiders drop out of the blue on random positions at sea and start
moving toward the nearest city.

They come with
trireme,
horsemen,
legions,
sail,
a diplomat,
knights,
frigate.

Sea raiders, unlike that name suggests come to settle.
They will typically defend their cities with one or two legions, or just any
unit,
and might keep granaries and barracks that are present in the city.
Sea raiders can wipe out small civilizations with their production of
legions and knights.

Land Barbarians:
They appear only away from settled land, outside of city influence.
This can be very annoying if you have vast areas that are too ugly to settle.
I believe they also destroy cities when capturing them.
I remember seeing horsemen and knights as their troops.

Insurrections, Guerrilla Uprisings:
Bigger versions of the land barbarians that come with some musketeers and one
or two cannons and a diplomat.
I don't know about civII, but I think they might acquire better weapons than
the above.
Riflemen and a tank for example.

Barbarians must explore the map like any other player,
and will wander cluelessly about if they don't see a city.
Barbarians will disappear if nothing happens for a long time.

Diplomats:
The leaders of barbarians. Every uprising and sail will have a diplomat.
If the leader is captured on a tile where there is no defending unit, a ransom
of 100 coins is paid.
Leaders will attempt to stack with barbarian units for protection, however.
Diplomats that are alone will disappear randomly( thus escaping capture ).

Barbarian diplomats may sabotage or bribe cities, though that is rare.
I don't know if Barbarians have their own treasury, but it would make sense.
