Yes the scroll and buttons actually work, and I can put a balled mouse
in the port and it will work, but I want the optical mouse.

Does your kernel have PS/2 support?  If modular, is the module loaded?
Do you know the PS/2 port actually works?  Is your mouse plugged into
the _proper_ PS/2 port (the mouse port, and not the keyboard port)?
