That was exactly my point in "A Modest Proposal". I believe an atmosphere of
free and open discussion benefits us all. Anyone who is interested in ACLUG,
and wants to be a part of our group should have the option to participate in
our discussions on the web. People who participate must indicate their
interest in doing so by joining the "LOCAL GROUP" list, or whatever we choose
to call it. No one else would be affected, only those who CHOOSE to join.
At the Saturday Sale, there were still those who were saying (in effect) "we
don't want people who don't/can't come to meetings to determine what we do in
the meetings". This was also stated several times in the Wed. meeting, and
was my rationale for the "VOTE" list. If we feel we must have an exclusive
list, let's use it as little a possible - to exclude the fewest number of
people. It was later suggested that we didn't need a VOTE list at all, but
that we simply take votes at meetings. This would solve the same problem. If
ACLUG does not have members vote via the web, there is no need for such a
list.
