Let me further explain what I didn't say correctly the first time.
(Actually, I told him I thought the /usr needed the most room, so that
implied that I meant to keep multiple partitions in the Linux environment,
but I opened my mouth and lost all control of the content from there on.
:-/ )

I do believe in multiple partitions. I don't see any need of setting up
the partitions before RedHat sets them up, however. RedHat will see the
one big partition and then ask you to specify the sizes and locations.
It's really pretty much of a wasted effort to partition them first since
they'll be in the wrong format anyway. That's what I meant. I don't know
why I'm acting like an expert anyway. Mine box is a mess so I shouldn't
presume to know what I'm talking about.

That's a bad idea...

What if you download Netscape 17.6 and it accidentally fills your
partition? Then your / partition fills, too, which can cause SERIOUS
problems.

Or suppose something bad happens and you have filesystem corruption... if
you have multiple partitions, then the corruption is issolated to a single
partition. Then you have a much better chance of not losing valuable
data.
