FYI, this has been discussed several times lately. You may be able to
find some useful tips from these discussions as well. A quick search of

It's good to have a /var partition. 100MB for root+var isn't a whole
lot.

Let the Linux install do that. Linux doesn't use FAT, so don't worry
about that.

No, it will not see them, so drive letters won't change.
