That's a bad idea...

What if you download Netscape 17.6 and it accidentally fills your
partition?  Then your / partition fills, too, which can cause SERIOUS
problems.

Or suppose something bad happens and you have filesystem corruption... if
you have multiple partitions, then the corruption is issolated to a single
partition.  Then you have a much better chance of not losing valuable
data.
