This is a non-issue. You're getting techs for free! You didn't waste X
turns researching that tech. It's like starting with 50 techs and then
whining because it'll take 50 turns instead of 5 to research the 51st tech.

As for researching dead-end techs, If a team member is dumb enough to 
research crappy techs, it's your team's fault in not setting up a tech 
strategy (or find a smarter player for your team) (that's why it's called a
_team_)
