You mean, when a unit steps inside a fortress and, say, invention (for
telescopes) is invented, the visionrange is enhanced to a radius of two?

Well, even though I liked the idea of a seperate watchtower, I think I
could subscribe to this idea.

The argument, that you could easily put a spy into a fortess and a
military defense unit upon it, doesn't count in my opinion. It takes a
long time until you can build spies, and until that, fortesses with
better vision can become a worthy advantage in overseeing large areas or
your borders.

The default technology connected to these enhanced fortresses should be
IMHO "invention", because I think of Galileo when invention is
mentioned, and Galileo invented the telescope, which was used firstly to
recognize enemies over large distances.

Does anyone have any strong (or not so strong :-) objections against any
of those ideas?

Bert
