When I installed my DSL for Linux they told me they did not support Linux
(SWBELL).
However, I set it up in a matter of 5 minutes and it has been flawless.
The notes on PPPoE are not really relevant because that part is taken care
of between the modem and their switch.
To my system it seems just an ethernet connection and with DHCP to get the
IP it has had NO hitches in over 11 months.

I routinely get 110 - 120 K/S download rates.
I even downloaded the RedHat 7.0 CD images in about 3 hours each

There is NO special software required for service from SWBELL with Linux.
Their "special software" allows a windows user to break and reestablish the
DHCP lease and to view the network parameters (IP, routing, etc). It does
not apply to Linux.
