I think there's a bit more here at stake than aesthetic preference.  Cable
and DSL technologies work differently, have different operating parameters
(DSL doesn't work outside of a certain range from the switch but you don't
share a line, cable works anywhere there's cable, but you share the
network segment with your neighborhood.), and the options in actual
service providers are different (you can't get SouthWind as an ISP with
cable, but you can with DSL).  While different needs of the customer may
dictate a different solution, the choice of provider or technology isn't
simply one of preference based on subjective elements.  There are
measurable pros and cons in both technologies and one can make a choice
based on objective criteria.
