Thanks, David. When I ran fdisk, there was a partition of two or three
cylinders at the front which I reckoned was diagnostics or bios or something
to leave - so I left it there.

This morning I downloaded two floppies of setup and tried it. Compaq really
isn't with the rest of the world. I managed to add a small hard drive, but
couldn't make it admit that someone would want to add a cdrom. Nearest I
could find was type 15 - 1 cylinder, 1 head, and 1 sector per cylinder. I
put that in and the hard drive is recognized, but still no cdrom.

Still struggling,
bruce
