Yeah, 3C509s are ISA, 3C905s are PCI

And ISA 3COM Etherlink III?  I thought those only came in PCI.

If it's an ISA and it doesn't have jumpers, you're going to need a
software utility to read/change the settings.  I'm pretty sure that there
are Linux tools for that, but I've always just used the DOS boot disk that
came with my ISA card myself.

Search your distro for plug-n-play tools.
