Would it be worthwhile to publish a detailed 'libXpm installation on
Solaris' on the Freeciv site?  It would be even better to add autoconf
support to the libXpm source, but I don't think I'm experienced enough
to do that right.

I'm not sure what you mean by that ...

Depends on what you mean by 'fancy'; the Xaw client code is slightly
'lower level' compared to the GTK+ client but not all that much harder
to maintain.
