So only normalize_map_pos and the
test-for-realness-and-normalized-position depend on the topology
used?!

Good. Next question is: what is the name of the new
test-for-realness-and-normalized-position method? I would like to see
a is_normalized_position(). However if this method is really only used
in constructs like "assert(is_normalized_position(x,y));" wouldn't be
it better to define a "ensure_normalized_position(x,y)"?

  (On the statement print "42 monkeys"+"1 snake"): BTW, both perl and Python
  get this wrong. Perl gives 43 and Python gives "42 monkeys1 snake", when 
  the answer is clearly "41 monkeys and 1 fat snake".
