To second Jonathan's observation:
My myth box ran fine, for months, without the side of the case on. After
I moved the machine and put the side back on, it would run fine until I
would perform a processor intensive function for an extended period of
time (compilig, transcoding, watching TV from Myth). RAM tested fine. I
was desparate, to the point of buying a new mobo and cpu. I had actually
started the transplant, when I looked at the chip cooler. Covered with
dust. One can of air later, it ran fine, and continues to do so.

My system does that occasionally... due I believe to overheating. Make
sure your CPU is cool enough (and possibly other components), etc.
