Ok, I got quake for Linux running and remembered how badly the graphics sucked.
And the fact that the free demo version has nothing even remotely resembling a
deathmatch arena for network games, so I thought...I'll grab Quake II. Should
be an easy setup now that I have Quake running, right?

Riiiiight...

Followed the setup instructions in the Quake HOWTO. The x11 version did run
right off, but...it only displays in half the window. It's squished into the
left half of the window it produces. I can change video resolutions, which
increases the window size, but the game is still only displaying in the left
half (actually slightly smaller then half) of the window.

The SVGAlib version is even worse. I get a seg fault when I run it. Root or my
normal username, doesn't matter. It happens immediately after it displays the
line that says it's loading ref_soft.so.

The HOWTO said that many of these type problems were due to bad network setup
(gee, it works for just about everything else, including the original quake...)
and it suggested starting the game using the -noudp option. I tried that and
instead of getting a seg fault, it just hangs after loading ref_soft.so.

Any ideas on what's wrong now?

Greg
