Last time I tried this (upgraded the motherboard) Windows freaked out and
I never got it back in working order... I had to reinstall. Windows has
little drivers for every darn thing on the board it seems and uses
different ones for different boards.

I'm facing this problem at work... I have a P100 and it needs upgraded.
They've decided to upgrade it instead of replace it (usually a good idea,
IMO) but that takes four to six weeks to send it off to our hardware
department. (They're backlogged with Y2K-required upgrades... everyone has
to have a minimum of a P200 to run some Y2K compliant versions of MS
Outlook and Office.) So we have this spare P200 (with Solaris installed)
that I'm supposed to transfer my harddrive to in the meantime... except
that it's going to trash Windows and have to be reinstalled. And then
when I get my new hardware, I'm going to have to do it again. And I don't
have all the install media... I have to send it off to IS to get
everything installed.
