You shouldn't.  NIS has nothing to do with connecting Windows to Linux.
NIS is used to share passwords between multiple Unix boxes.  I don't know
what you're trying to do, but I can guarantee that NIS will not accomplish
it for you.

In Linux, no.  In Windows, yes.  You need to install NETBEUI.
