At this point, AFAIK even in 2.2.x, /dev/cuax is supported. Linus has
declared this to be depricated and says their support will not exist in
kernels later than 2.2.x. In fact I am using kernel 2.0.36 and had
switched all my /dev/cuax references to /dev/ttySx a few months back
when running kernel 2.0.33 with no ill effects.

Currently it is not *required* to stop using /dev/cuax, but understand
that its support will be removed in the future.
