Hi John,
thanks for the assistance.  My cut and paste still doesn't work.
maybe X doesn't recognize my three buttons?  

In my XF86Config I state: .. Pointer ...Protocol "Microsoft"....
Buttons 3 
Where else should I look?  

I feel I must appologize for my 'newbieness' sorry for the gpm
question, I looked up 'cut and paste' and found that.
