As said in my first message to this list, the departmental cluster is
currently operating with Fedora Core 6 (since November of 2007 or so) and
offline 4.0.16 seems to be the version distributed with FC6.

It would be also an issue of dependences. In case that a newer version were
unavoidable to do what I need, it would be much better that the system
manager installs whatever is needed from a FC6 rpm repository.

But yet I do not have any firm reason to make such a request to the system
manager.
What I need first is information on offlineimap 4.0.16. In particular whether
it can produce a log file.

I do not have a test system with FC6, offlineimap 4.0.16, an imap server and so
on.

Interesting but not a priority. As I will leave offlineimap working in the
background all the time at the departmental cluster, if it takes a minute or a
second to do its job, it would be almost the same for me.
