what happens when you try to load the new kernel?  you said you modified
lilo.conf?  are you choosing the correct image name that corresponds w/
the kernel you want to boot?  i'd give you my lilo.conf, but unfortunately
i didn't think about keeping that when i went to freebsd...  would've come
in handy...  got a friend on ICQ that's getting started w/ linux as well,
and he was having different lilo problems...
