What, you mean like the gamelog?

$ civserver -g mygamelog
> set gamelog [whatever]

Sample log with gamelog=40,
[snip worldmap]
-4000 Swedes discover Pottery (Hut)
-4000 Lithuanians discover Alphabet (Hut)
-4000 Japanese discover Masonry (Hut)
-4000 Barbarians form a Despotism
-3950 Spanish lose an Explorer to the Barbarians
-3950 Stockholm (54, 39) founded by the Swedes
-3950 Tokyo (69, 39) founded by the Japanese
-3900 Vilnius (14, 11) founded by the Lithuanians
-3900 Japanese discover Alphabet (Hut)
-3850 Barbarians lose a Horsemen to the Lithuanians
-3850 Uppsala (55, 42) founded by the Swedes
-3850 Babylon (50, 10) founded by the Babylonians
[snip]

Different levels of gamelog produce different levels of output; 40 is
the maximum verbosity.
