okay. the license is BSD-like, allowing pretty much everything you want. for 
example, i use it for my current work project - which is a proprietary 
product. i pay no royalties, i have modified it and make changes to the 
source.

using it in an open source product would be the exact same thing. you're 
right. the custom license is a bit suspicious, but it's been around since 
before the GPL/LGPL, etc.
