However, that could work out OK if I had a faster machine. Even better if I put 
a sleep statement in there, and checked the PID, and... crap, back where I 
started :)

Seriously, though, I guess one of us needs to step up to the plate and put in 
some exception handling. I am not promising anything, but I'll see what I can 
do. Need to brush up on my Python anyway...
