actually, FreeBSD is one of the nicest to the MBR of any OS's i've
installed...  it basically gives you three options for each disk
installed...  1.) Install a boot loader, 2.) install a standard boot and 3.)
don't do anything...  just choose to install a standard boot (2nd option,
iirc) on your FreeBSD boot partition and tell it to leave the rest alone...
then, lilo will still be there (assuming you're not installing FreeBSD on
your primary master)... just modify lilo to boot FreeBSD (i have no idea how
to do this, but i'm sure someone else knows or has already answered) and you
should be set!

no experience w/ linux and FreeBSD, so i can't say here...  but if you use
lilo instead of FBSD's boot loader, you should be fine...
