It would not surprise me if the settings are different there than in
Wichita.

I had swbell DSL (dhcp) in wichita, and for a while it worked fine, then
it started doing what you are describing.  After I complained bitterly
for a couple of weeks it suddenly went back to staying connected again. 
And I never lost my connection again except when power was out.

I believe that what was happening to me was they had put in a maximum
time a lease would be valid, and then later they removed the limit.
