That's definitely _not_ why the map is compressed in the X direction. 
In fact for the map to be compressed in the X direction is a big problem 
here, because that means when the overview uncompresses it to do 
"natural" drawing it ends up twice as wide.  In effect it means that X 
tiles on the "natural" map are half as wide as Y tiles, while X tiles on 
the mapview map are twice as wide as Y tiles.
