I agree 100%
However I have 0 experience with GUI, so can offer no help here

I am "pro" development branch.
But will it help the stable branch any?

Take Ross.  He is practically running his own branch, remaking the
map-related code and submitting diffs from time to time.  But did it help
the main branch?  Not at all.
