Certianly Brother (I believe that's who you said made it) has a technical
support line.

If Windows 98 is said to be supported by the product, then they should be
obligated to help you get it working with Windows 98, or provide a refund.

Make sure that it supports _your version_ of Windows 98... If you have 98
first edition, the device may only support 98SE... (98SE has better USB
support than first edition).
