I would be willing to talk about any of the following. Some of these
are not long enough for a single meeting, so two might be covered in one
night. My personal favorite suggestion would be LVM near the bottom,
which could apply to just about everyone.

Introductory Material:

 * What an OS does, what Linux is, how it's different from Windows.

 * Common tasks for a Linux newbie. Burning CD-ROMs, Gnome vs. KDE,
working with MS Office docs, where to find help.

Networking: A not-too-technical introduction to how networks and the
Internet work. (Covers things like network layers, TCP/IP, Ethernet,
etc.) Then, common network configuration tasks in Linux. Second half:
a description of IPv6, why I'm thrilled about it, and how you can use
Linux to get billions of IP addresses for your home, given only a single
IPv4 address.

Why People Like Linux: Talks about the empowering nature of Free/Open
Source Software. Some fun moments in Linux history (video of Bill
Gates having Windows BSOD on him, the Microsoft KSH episode, one of
Linus' letters to SCO). Then an update on where Linux is now and where
it's going.

BSD -- The Other Free Operating Systems: A discussion of the three
popular BSD operating systems, FreeBSD, NetBSD, and OpenBSD; the
differences between them; the differences between them and Linux; and a
demonstration of NetBSD. While we're at it, a comparison between Linux
and the commercial Unices -- Solaris, AIX, etc.

DocBook -- Writing documentation with SGML and converting it into just
about any format imaginable.

Linux at work -- Why businesses like Linux, prominent companies
using Linux, how to get Linux in at work, and my own experiences with
Linux at various companies.

LVM and Advanced Filesystems: Two separate topics. First, the LVM,
which essentially replaces partition tables with a far more advanced,
yet easier to use, option. Then, common advanced filesystems: reiserfs
and ext3 and my personal experience with both.

Some other shorter topics that could be combined or added to something
above:

 * Printing with CUPS and Foomatic.

 * Programming with Python.

 * What's up with the SCO thing

Oh, and, what date is the meeting? :-)

Thanks,
John
