Yes..

To my knowledge all current set-top PVR/DVR's other than the new
RCA DRS7000N ($600.00 which is a combo DVD player and PVR that
uses the RCA 'GemStar' program guide service.) have some sort of
monthly service fee.. at least the RePlay version allows the
owner to purchase a "Lifetime" service... this can not be done
with a Tivo, Microsoft UltimateTV, Panasonic Showstopper [Which
is a custom Replay system], or DishPVR boxes.

"Titan TV" the current "Standard" web based service for most
retail PC based program guide service will soon be charging a
monthly service fee!

So I look at it this way... can I really build a PC based PVR/DVR
for the same amount of money.. {$200 + $250 = $450.00} ..Not one
with the picture quality, remote control, and DSS control....

I have more money tied up in the 950mhz Duron based system that I
was going to try converting to a PVR!
