During my lifetime, I have held, either by choice or by spoon-fed method,
wildly divergent views of things, with particular interest in both science
and religion. And I have observed a curious phenomenon in myself: Regardless
of what my view of the universe was at the time, everywhere I looked, I saw
that "the evidence" supported that (my current) view.

And I have also noticed this same apparent phenomenon in others as well. Two
people (or six billion people) can look at the same event/evidence/whatever
and come away with different -- often totally contradictory -- views. And
these views are rarely reconciled through discussion. (Which breaks another
of my family-of-origin held ideas that all things can be talked through to
resolution.)

And that's why discussions such as this one rarely result in any consensus
about things. (I have, however, squirreled away some of the treatise-length
emails for future digestion. Think: cud.) I enjoy seeing good discussions,
but they mostly confirm what I already know (even if what I know today isn't
what I knew yesterday) So, does it all come down to solpsism?
