I started with Slackare and learned everything the 'dirty' way.  Then I
switched to Debian which I really like...

I'm considering switchign to FreeBSD for a few things, though, where I need
features that stable Debian doesn't support b/c it's habitually 2-years
outdated.

I was fortunate enough to bypass the RedHat/Mandrake/"Newbie-friendly"
distros.  I started with Linux before they really became popular, and I'm
glad I didn't go thru that stuff.  But for many people, it can be a good
thing.
