no, ppp0 would be over ttyS3-- isa pnp modem--jumper set

not now, but when up and running there will be a crash if I tried to bring up 
the ppp
while I was using the ttyS1 as they share the same IRQ.

yes I am using a null modem, and I do get use out of it now, but when the 
mgetty line
is in my inittab, it also places a lock file on the ppp also.  The ppp is 
dialing and
then sees the lock file, and hangs up.

they are both set at the same speed first 19200 then I bumped it to 38400.  If 
they
are at different speeeds, you get gibberish at both ends.  I get the proper 
graphics
and communications, but it is only 16 bytes shot down, and then it waits 120 
seconds
and sends another 16 bytes..... (this is on the direct connection)
