I was waiting for USB support in the 2.2 kernel, but it mostly didn't
make it. VERY limited support. I am told it will support keyboard and
mouse in Mac (Imax), but don't bother w/ anything that needs more
horsepower. I finally bought a UMAX Astro 1200S (scsi, 600x1200 dpi
optical). These have recently been replaced by the 1220S, and I bought
mine for $100 - about half the price of the 1220S - a couple of weeeks
ago. Closeout price.

The scanner came w/ a no-name UDS-IS11 scsi card. I spent hours trying
to find info on this thing. Most folks recommended trashing it and
getting a real one, but since I didn't want to spend the money I kept
looking. Turns out this card is really a DTC-3181LE (scsi II), and is
supported in kernel 2.2.x if you set OPTIONS correctly. I have info on
how to do this if you're interested, altho I have yet to figure out what
they are talking about.
