I run into this quite frequently. I can confirm that if you create the
folder on the server (which can be tricky to get right, of course), then
offlineimap will properly sync the mail in the local folders to the
server.

John, is there no way this can be changed? While I realize there are a
couple ways local folders can be described, I would have thought the
PathSeparator configuration would help point the way. Not being able to
create upstream folders is a huge pain - because it makes the
drag-and-drop change-the-hierarchy abilities of something like Evolution
useless.
