you can also restart services in init.d by typing 'service <service_name>
<option>' where <service_name> is the name of the services (ie: lpd,
ipchains, samba...) and options is typically one of "start", "stop",
"restart", or "status"... some only have start and stop, some have more than
just those four...  i assume (but do not know, since i just found out about
this recently) typing 'service <service_name>' would give you the same
output as '/etc/init.d/<service_name>' for example:

#/etc/init.d/lpd
Usage: /etc/init.d/lpd [start|stop|restart|status]

i just kinda pulled the example out of my yinyang, so it may not be 100% to
the character, but you get the idea...
