I assume from the title of the email that the card is a DFE-530tx.  I am using
one of these with rtl8139 driver.

Try putting:

alias eth0 rtl8139
options eth0 irq=9

into /etc/conf.modules.  If irq 9 doesn't work, try irq 12.  Some distributions
call the file modules.conf.  For some reason, I had the notation on my notes to
use irq 9 or 12 in my notes.????
