I had a terrible time trying to install Slackware. One day by accident I
made the complete drive root with no other partitions and the install went
off without a hitch.

what was I doing wrong.

The problem I had with slackware is most files that I had worked with in
Mandrake were either different or not there. I just had a terrible time
finding things or knowing how to manually change settings.

I needed a working system so went back to Mandrake. When I get my older
system back working I would like to install Slackware and try to learn it. I
have a friend who swears by Slackware and that is his main desktop. To bad
he lives so fare away. :>) I have only been messing with Linux a little over
a year off and on. CU
