I don't really know. I haven't had that kind of problem. Perhaps you
can describe what happened, or appeared to happen. If you get a chance
to try again you might take note of error messages. Also, which
version of Slackware were you using. They have improved the install
procedure some with the later releases.

That is likely true. Slackware is more of what I would call an
"Old-School" distribution. That is, they have not adopted some of the
newer ideas and jumped on some of the newer bandwagons. Compared to
any of the the distributions that I have seen (Debian and Redhat) it
is more BSDish than others. That means that things like startup
scripts and so on are going to be different. Is this good, bad, or
indifferent? That is for each person to say for themselves. In general,
I think that the Slackware way of doing things is far less complex,
but then I've been using it for a while and I understand how it works.

Also, it is true that Slackware has less software packages bundled
with the distribution that some others (again Debian and Redhat to be
specific). Although, the newer releases have a lot more than it used
to. Again, it depends on your philosophy as to whether this is a good
thing or not.
