Steve:

This is the chap stuff for Linux provided by AT&T Worldnet -

Installed in /etc/ppp/

#/usr/sbin/ppp-on

/usr/sbin/pppd name "987654321@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" -d connect
\
 '/usr/sbin/chat -t 45 -v ABORT BUSY "" ATDT3424101
CONNECT ""' \
/dev/modem 115200 noipdefault debug modem defaultroute
crtscts

I have the same thing in both boxes.

All the stuff from /var/log/messages was near the bottom of
the last message. It was for the connection from which the
other data was recorded.

Thanks for your time and effort.
