I have the same problem. In KDE1.1 some problems can be fixed by
changing that
option but the accent problem is not fixed in KDE 2! I have seen this
problem in other gtk apps,
but never in xaw apps. I have the problem since I'm using KDE2. Even
if I select failsafe in kdm. The problem is still there.
I have tried (from textconsole):
X :1 tty8 &
export DISPLAY=:1
twm&
xterm&
pressing alt-f8 and then starting civclient from that xterm.
Then all accents are displayed. (BTW: gtk version:1.2.7-1)
This problem also appears also in the windows gtk version.
Greetings
