I have heard theories that a certain setting in KDE2 triggers this bug in 
GTK+. It is fixed in newer GTK+, but a workaround is to turn off that 
setting. I think it is Kontrolpanel->Look&Feel->Style. There is a checkbox 
about wether to use fonts and colors for programs outside KDE. Try to uncheck 
it. (I can't see the english text labels because I use translation.)
