Yes that's right... I see that the only problem with MIDI is the really 
"poor" Quality of the sounds at less we use the "timidity (Tuukka Toivonen)
sound PATCHES"... and like you say ... have a mix of diferent file formats:
        Sounds and actions --wave format (aiff, au, wav... etc)
        Background Music -MIDI  or MOD format...
        Start  && / || End of the game (MP3 files at low bit rate)
As the sounds, the music may be under de GPL
