I have put into CVS some of the "search-and-replace" changes which
were in ftp://ftp.freeciv.org/pub/freeciv/incoming/impr-gen-22.diff.bz2

(Personally, I much prefer such changes to be done separately, because 
they are easy to check-in with confidence, and they are included in
a big patch they make reading the important parts of the big patch
harder.)

I have uploaded an updated
   ftp://ftp.freeciv.org/pub/freeciv/incoming/impr-gen-23.diff.bz2

This is updated to current CVS, but otherwise not much changed or 
tested, and problems remain.

I would like to see this patch broken up into smaller parts or steps, 
as much as possible, which can then be more easily checked/tested.
